State rules for every business in Tamil Nadu
- Shops and Establishments registration: Not mandatory below 10 workers. Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947 (amended 2023). Mandatory for establishments with 10 or more workers (Form Y). Certificate (Form Z) issued within 24 hours.
- Professional tax: Up to ₹1,250 per half-year (₹2,500 a year), by income; companies also pay Company Tax
- GST registration: needed once turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services.
