What we do
Starting a business in India means dealing with central, state and municipal registrations, each with its own office, fee and document list. GovtLicense puts all of it in one checklist for your business and city, and links you to the official portal to apply.
We started with the licences a restaurant owner deals with every year, and expanded to the 14 most common small businesses across India's eight largest cities.
Independent and free
- We are not a government body and are not affiliated with any government department.
- We never collect government fees or process applications. You apply on the official portal.
- The service is free to use. Official links are never paid placements.
How we verify
Wrong fees cost people money, so every licence shows where its information came from and when it was last checked.

Our order of preference for sources: gazette notifications and Acts, official portals and fee schedules, official circulars, then reputable secondary sources. Every checklist item links to its source.
Keeping it current
We review the full dataset regularly and update individual entries as soon as a rule change is confirmed. Recent changes are listed on the home page. The date of the last full review is shown in the footer of every page.
Corrections
If you find an error, use Report a correction on any licence or the contact form. We review every report against the official source before changing anything, and aim to act on confirmed errors within 7 working days.
