Driving licence and RC PDF: DigiLocker and mParivahan
You can keep your driving licence (DL) and registration certificate (RC) on your phone. Use DigiLocker or the mParivahan app. They are official records, not photos.

Govt License never asks for your Aadhaar number or OTP. Only download from official sites. We do not download anything for you, and you never type personal details on our site.
Steps
- Install the mParivahan app or open digilocker.gov.in and log in
- In DigiLocker, go to Issued Documents and search for Driving Licence or Vehicle Registration
- Choose the issuer, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
- Enter your DL number or registration number as asked and allow the document to be fetched
- In mParivahan, add your DL or RC by its number. The app builds a virtual DL or RC with a QR code
- Download or show the document when an officer asks. Keep the paper copy if the digital one shows no valid status

- Your DL number or vehicle registration number
- A DigiLocker account (see our DigiLocker guide) or the mParivahan app
- The mobile number linked to your DigiLocker account
Good to know
- Only documents in the Issued Documents section count as valid. Files you upload yourself do not.
- MoRTH's advisory treats the electronic records as legally recognised at par with the originals.
- Carry the paper documents if the online copy is not available.
Problems and fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| DL not found in DigiLocker | Your DL record may not have moved from the RTO to the Sarathi system. Ask your RTO to migrate it. |
| Name does not match | DigiLocker fetches documents only when the name matches your Aadhaar name. Correct the name in the record that is wrong. |
| Insurance, tax or PUC status not shown | If the virtual copy or the validity status is not available, MoRTH says the paper document must be carried. |
| Officer refuses the digital copy | MoRTH has advised transport authorities to accept DL, RC and other documents shown through DigiLocker or mParivahan. Show the QR code. |
Common questions
Is a DL on DigiLocker or mParivahan valid?
Yes. MoRTH has advised that electronic DL and RC shown through DigiLocker or mParivahan are legally recognised at par with the originals.
Why is my driving licence not showing in DigiLocker?
The record may not have been migrated from the RTO to the Sarathi portal. Contact your RTO.
Do I still need to carry paper documents?
If the digital copy or the validity status is not available, you must carry the paper documents.
