EPF balance check: four official ways
You can see your PF balance in the EPFO passbook, in UMANG, by a missed call or by SMS. All are free.
The short answer
Check your EPF balance in the EPFO passbook at passbook.epfindia.gov.in or in the UMANG app.
Without internet, give a missed call to 9966044425 or send EPFOHO UAN by SMS to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
All of these are free.
Govt License never asks for your Aadhaar number or OTP. Only download from official sites. We do not download anything for you, and you never type personal details on our site.
Steps
- Passbook portal: open passbook.epfindia.gov.in yourself, log in with your UAN, password and captcha, and select your member ID to see the passbook.
- UMANG app: open the EPFO services in UMANG and choose the passbook.
- Missed call: from your registered mobile number, give a missed call to 9966044425. The call disconnects after two rings and you get the last contribution and balance by SMS.
- SMS: from your registered mobile number, send EPFOHO UAN to 7738299899. Add a three letter language code after UAN to get the reply in another language.
- You can also log in to the member portal, open the Download menu and choose Passbook.

Good to know
- The missed call and SMS services are free. EPFO never asks for money to show your balance.
- Do not share your UAN password or OTP with anyone.
- UMANG is the official app for EPFO services.
Problems and fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The passbook does not open | Your UAN must be activated. Activate it in the UMANG app, then try again. |
| The missed call or SMS gives no reply | Use the mobile number registered with your UAN. The UAN needs a bank account, Aadhaar or PAN linked to it. |
| Your latest contribution is missing | Contributions can take a few days to appear after your employer files. Check again later or ask your employer. |

Is checking the EPF balance free?
Yes. The passbook, UMANG, the missed call and the SMS service are free.
Why can I not see my passbook?
Your UAN must be activated and linked details must match. The passbook is also not available for members of establishments exempt from the EPF Scheme 1952.
