Certificate of origin: preferential, non-preferential and e-CoO
Get a certificate of origin for export from India: non-preferential CoO (₹200) and preferential CoO under trade agreements (₹600), via the trade.gov.in platform. Documents and steps.
Official sources checked: 2 Oct 2026
What it is
A certificate of origin proves where goods were made. There are two kinds. A non-preferential CoO only proves origin. A preferential CoO lets your buyer claim lower duty under a trade agreement such as India-UAE CEPA or India-Australia ECTA.
DGFT says all authorised agencies must accept applications and issue certificates only through the platform at trade.gov.in. Manual issue outside the platform is not permitted.
Who needs it
Exporters whose buyers ask for proof of origin, and any exporter who wants the buyer to get a duty concession under an FTA or PTA. India-UK CETA and India-EFTA TEPA also allow origin to be self-declared by the exporter, in addition to a certificate from an authorised agency.
