What is Aadhaar offline verification?
Offline verification lets a business check who you are without sending your Aadhaar number to UIDAI's central database and without keeping a photocopy. UIDAI calls such businesses Offline Verification Seeking Entities, or OVSEs.
UIDAI announced on 5 November 2026 that 300 OVSEs have now joined since the system began in January. The reports say the system is consent-based, so you decide what to share.
Which businesses can now verify Aadhaar offline?
The reports name hotels and hospitality, healthcare, education, events and the gig economy. Consumer-facing businesses are also included. The reports do not publish the full list of 300 names.
If you run a hotel, clinic, school or event business, ask UIDAI how to become an OVSE. Do not assume you are approved until UIDAI lists you.

Do I still have to give an Aadhaar photocopy?
Daily Pioneer says the move is expected to reduce the collection of physical Aadhaar copies as ID proof, and that some entities keep a photocopy as proof, which it says the Aadhaar Act does not allow. DD India does not make that point, so treat it as one outlet's reading.
Whatever the case, you can ask the business how it verifies you and whether you can use the Aadhaar app instead of handing over a copy. Our Aadhaar update guide explains how to keep your details correct.
What is new about the Aadhaar app?
DD India reports that the Aadhaar app has nearly 7.5 crore downloads. Through the app, there have been over 86 lakh mobile number updates, 22.16 lakh address updates and 40.25 lakh email updates.
It also reports 4.6 crore biometric lock or unlock transactions and 3.61 lakh Aadhaar lock or unlock transactions. UIDAI describes both locks as optional extra privacy layers.
Does this change what I must do today?
Nothing new is compulsory for you. The reports describe an expansion of a system that already runs, and no new deadline or fee. Keep your phone number linked to Aadhaar so you can use the app, and see our Aadhaar PVC card guide if you want a card.
