What is the new EPFO WhatsApp service?
Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched EPFO services on WhatsApp on 1 November 2026, at the 74th Foundation Day of EPFO in New Delhi. Members can use EPFO's verified WhatsApp service to see their PF balance, their latest five transactions and their passbook details.
The reports also say the service gives personal guidance on requirements under the PMVBRY scheme. The aim is to put routine services on a familiar app so members visit EPFO offices less often.
What is the EPFO WhatsApp number and how do I use it?
The two reports we read do not give the WhatsApp number or the sign-up steps, so we do not print a number here. Use only the number shown on the official EPFO website or the EPFO app, because fake numbers are common.
Never share your UAN password, OTP or bank details on WhatsApp. EPFO will not ask for them in a chat. For the usual way to see your balance, read our EPF and ESIC guide.

What is the auto settlement of inoperative EPF accounts?
An inoperative account is one that has not been used for a long time. From 1 November 2026, EPFO has started settling Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts with up to ₹1,000 on its own, without the member filing a claim.
The reports say EPFO begins the settlement after verifying the member's identity and bank account. About 1 lakh accounts, holding around ₹5 crore in total, are expected to benefit.
Who can get the ₹1,000 auto settlement?
If your Aadhaar is not linked to your UAN, fix that first. Our Aadhaar update guide shows how to correct Aadhaar details.
- Your EPF account must be inoperative.
- The account must be Aadhaar-verified.
- The balance must be ₹1,000 or less.
- EPFO must be able to verify your identity and your bank account.
What is still not clear about this EPFO change?
The reports do not say how long the settlement will take, how members will be told when money is sent, or whether accounts above ₹1,000 will be included later. We will update this page when EPFO publishes the official notice.
