Passport
An Indian passport is needed for international travel and is also a strong ID and address proof. Apply online and visit a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office PSK.

How to apply
- Register on passportindia.gov.in or the mPassport Seva app
- Fill the application for fresh or re-issue
- Pay the fee online and book a PSK or POPSK appointment
- Visit with original documents for photo and biometrics
- Complete police verification at your address
- Track status and receive the passport by Speed Post
Good to know
- Revised fees under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 (GSR 516(E), 20 June 2026) apply from 1 July 2026
- Children up to 8 and seniors above 60 get 10% off on fresh applications (not re-issue)
- Minors aged 15 to 18 can apply in the adult category and pay adult fees
- Pay only on passportindia.gov.in, many fake passport sites charge extra
- Keep documents ready for police verification to avoid delay
Common questions
What is the passport fee in 2026?
From 1 July 2026, a 36 page normal passport costs ₹2,500 and a 60 page one costs ₹3,500 for adults.
How long does it take to get a passport?
Normal passports usually arrive about 30 days after police verification. Tatkaal is much faster.
How long is a child's passport valid?
A 36 page minor passport is valid for 5 years or until the child turns 18, whichever is earlier.
