What it is and who needs it
Fire safety clearance based on occupancy, area, height and fuel use. Eating houses using LPG, larger premises and taller buildings. Delhi: restaurants over 50 seats or 90 sq m.
In Uttar Pradesh it is issued by the Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services.
Under the UP Fire and Emergency Services Act, 2022 and Rules, 2024, a fire safety certificate is needed for buildings over 15 m high and for special buildings. Shops (mercantile) below 15 m with floor area under 500 sq m and offices (business) below 10 m with floor area under 500 sq m are exempt. Restaurants count as assembly buildings and are not in the exempt list, so check with the local fire office. Fee not published in a source we could reach.
