Landlord NOC (consent letter for business premises)

A letter from the owner of a shop or office saying the tenant may run a business there. Asked for by most licence offices when the premises are rented.

This is a sample, not an official form. Offices and states differ. Check this text with the issuing office before you sign, and use the office's own form if it gives you one. Govt License does not give legal advice.

What it is for

Use it when the shop, office or kitchen is rented or belongs to a family member. It is asked for with a trade licence, Shops and Establishments registration, FSSAI, GST (as the consent of the owner for the place of business) and fire NOC.

Who signs

The owner of the premises signs. If there are several owners, ask each one to sign.

Common questions

Do I need stamp paper for a landlord NOC?
Most offices accept a plain signed letter with the owner's ID copy. Some ask for it on stamp paper or with a notary stamp. The rule differs by city and office, so ask the issuing office before you print it.
What if I own the shop myself?
Then you do not need this letter. Attach your ownership proof, such as the latest property tax receipt or the sale deed.
Can the NOC be given if the owner lives in another city?
Yes. The owner can sign and send a scanned copy with the ID proof. Check with the office whether an original signature is needed.
