GST authorised signatory letter format

A letter in which the owner, partner or director of a business authorises one person to sign and file GST applications and returns on its behalf.

This is a sample, not an official form. Offices differ. Check this text with the issuing office before you sign, and use the office's own form if it gives you one. Govt License does not give legal advice.

What it is for

Use it when someone other than the owner will sign GST documents, for example a partner, manager or accountant, or when the GST registration form asks for an authorisation for the authorised signatory.

Who signs

The proprietor, partner or director who is giving the authority signs. The authorised signatory also signs to accept.

Common questions

Who can be an authorised signatory under GST?
Any person the business trusts to act for it, such as a partner, director, manager or accountant. The GST portal asks for the person's details and ID proof. Follow the instructions on the GST portal, which may need a letter or board resolution in its own format.
Is this the same as a board resolution?
A company usually passes a board resolution to name its authorised signatory. A proprietor or partnership firm can use a signed authorisation letter. Use the format the GST portal asks for when it gives one.
Can the authority be withdrawn?
Yes. Give a written notice of withdrawal to the authorised signatory and update the details on the GST portal.
