In FY 2025-26, the largest groups of Indian exports to Australia were mineral fuels and oils (US$ 2,713 million), machinery and mechanical appliances (US$ 605 million), pharmaceutical products (US$ 488 million). The largest groups of imports from Australia were mineral fuels and oils (US$ 6,464 million), pearls, gems, precious metals and jewellery (US$ 2,907 million), ores, slag and ash (US$ 1,157 million). All figures are from TradeStat.
Trade agreement and certificate of origin
India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). Signed 2 April 2022, in force from 29 December 2022.
Goods that meet the ECTA rules of origin can carry a preferential certificate (₹600) through trade.gov.in. Other shipments use the non-preferential certificate (₹200).

What matters on the Indian side
- DGFT's Appendix 2A lists a tariff rate quota (TRQ) for imports from Australia under ECTA: lentils, in-shell almonds, shelled almonds, oranges, mandarins including tangerines and satsumas, pears, and extra long staple cotton of at least 28 mm staple length. Importers follow the TRQ procedure in the Appendix.
- Mineral fuels, gems and ores lead imports from Australia in the data. For food imports FSSAI clearance applies, and plant products can need a quarantine import permit.
- Mineral fuels, machinery and pharmaceutical products are among the larger exports to Australia in the data.
