State rules for every business in Assam
- Shops and Establishments registration: ₹1,000 to ₹2,000. Assam Shops and Establishments Act, 1971. Apply on the EODB portal within 30 days of starting. You need the trade licence from the local authority first. Hotels and restaurants pay the higher fee once they have employees.
- Professional tax: ₹2,500 a year for most businesses and professionals with income of ₹3 lakh or more (₹1,800 or ₹2,160 for lower slabs). Dealers pay by yearly turnover: nil up to ₹4 lakh, ₹1,000 up to ₹7 lakh, ₹1,500 up to ₹10 lakh, ₹2,500 above. Staff pay: nil up to ₹10,000 a month, then ₹150, ₹180 or ₹208 a month
- GST registration: needed once turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services.
